About Brian Evans, LPC

The story behind the FND Healing Center.

Brian’s Story

I began my career in 2016 working in a crisis center and a methadone clinic, sitting with people in some of the most raw and vulnerable moments of their lives. What I noticed early on changed the way I would practice for the rest of my career.

I came to the conclusion early in my career that addiction is rarely the root cause. It is a symptom. In many cases, beneath the struggle with substance use lies unresolved trauma, pain the nervous system had found a way to survive, even if that survival came at an enormous cost. That understanding of trauma as the root, not the behavior, not the label, became the foundation of everything I do.

I spent my career as a trauma therapist in Arizona, working with people navigating their hardest chapters. It was within that work that I encountered a few clients with Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES). What struck me wasn't just their symptoms. It was their exhaustion, the years of being dismissed, and the frustration of finally receiving a diagnosis only to be told to find a therapist with no guidance and no direction. They weren't just dealing with functional seizures, tremors, and chronic pain. They were dealing with being invisible.

The more I learned, the more I realized how common Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) actually is and how few people, including providers, truly understand it. FND is so much more than seizures. It is a complex neurological condition that can affect movement, sensation, memory, and energy in ways that touch every part of a person's life. And just like addiction, FND is so often connected to experiences the mind and body have never had the chance to fully process.

Receiving an FND diagnosis is scary enough on its own. The last thing someone should have to do is navigate finding an FND therapist who truly understands the condition, with no guidance, no support, and no true referral source. I saw that gap clearly, and I knew I needed to do something about it.

So, I made a decision. I closed Anchor Point Counseling Center and built something new, something that didn't exist yet for this community in Arizona. FND Healing Center was built entirely around the belief that you deserve more than a diagnosis and a door closing behind you.

My approach is rooted in trauma-informed care for FND and PNES, and I bring together several modalities that share a common thread — deep respect for the nervous system and the protective role it plays. I am a certified EMDR therapist and Certified Hypnotherapist (CHt), and I incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed work into my practice. Together these approaches create space for safe processing and genuine healing rather than forcing change. I do not treat every form of FND. My work focuses specifically on PNES, trauma-related functional seizures, and the nervous system patterns that contribute to them.

I believe that healing begins with feeling truly seen, not managed, not redirected, but genuinely met where you are. Every client deserves a real and authentic connection, and I will always show up fully present, honest, and in your corner.

As an Arizona telehealth therapist specializing in FND, I work with clients throughout the state, meaning that wherever you are in Arizona, specialized FND therapy is within reach. I also hold compact licensure in Ohio, Minnesota, and Louisiana, extending telehealth services to clients in those states as well.

Navigating an FND or PNES diagnosis can feel overwhelming, especially when meaningful mental health support is hard to find. If you or someone you love is living with FND or PNES and is ready for specialized, trauma-informed therapy in Arizona, Ohio, Minnesota, or Louisiana, you are in the right place. You are seen here. You are believed here. And healing is possible. I would be honored to be part of your journey.

My Approach

Think of your nervous system like a smoke detector. Its job is to protect you — to sound the alarm when there is danger. But sometimes, after years of real smoke, the detector becomes so sensitized that it fires when there is no fire at all. The alarm is real. The response is real. The detector is just doing its job based on everything it has learned. Functional seizures are your nervous system's alarm system — real, involuntary, and deeply connected to what your body has survived. Our work together is not about silencing the alarm. It is about helping your nervous system learn that the fire is out — that it is finally safe enough to stand down. I use an integrated approach drawing on EMDR, somatic therapy, polyvagal-informed nervous system education, and evidence-based trauma processing. Every treatment plan is collaborative and built entirely around you.
